Dinner Meeting – Guest Speaker Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Sydney, Jaroslav Roman Duma OAM on Ukraine & Australia – One Year On

21 March 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Members, Partners and Guests are welcome.

President Liz invites you to join the Rotary Club of Blacktown City members and guests to hear a briefing by the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Sydney, Jaroslav Roman Duma OAM, on some important perspectives on the full Russian invasion of Ukraine – ONE YEAR ON.

  • Hear about what is happening in the war, beyond what is in the media
  • Learn about the support by the Australian and NSW Governments, Rotary, the Australian people and other groups around the world
  • Find out about the Ukrainian Displaced People in Australia and how they are being helped

Jaroslav Duma is currently the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Sydney, and an active member of the Australian-Ukrainian community to which he has devoted most of his life through a myriad of “volunteer” positions in various community organisations.

He is committed to his family, especially to his wife Mary, and has two married sons, all of whom are also active community members.

In June 2006 he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the Ukrainian community and to Credit Unions presented by the then Governor of NSW.

Throughout his life, he has always been active in the Ukrainian community, and in 2013 also joined Rotary, expanding his community volunteerism to the mainstream community… He was President of his local Rotary branch (the Rotary Club of Holroyd) in 2014-2015.

In 2017, after being nominated by His Excellency Dr Mykola Kulinich, the then Ambassador of Ukraine in Australia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (and approved by the Department of Foreign Affairs of Australia) he was named as the Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Sydney. In that role he represents Ukraine at official consular functions and represents the Head of Mission at functions where he is unable to attend in the State of NSW and, provides support to Ukrainian citizens when there is a call to do so.

Jaroslav places much emphasis on the importance of mentoring young people in values of community – espousing that “it takes a village to raise a child, not just an education”.

Please RSVP by 12 noon on Monday 20 March via the Contact Us page – The dinner cost $23.00 and includes a 2-course dinner. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements. Eftpos facilities are available.
