RAWCS Medical and Dental Mission to Bacolod in the Philippines.

Myra Hegarty is the Rotary Club of Blacktown City’s International Service Chair, with planning underway for another RAWCS Medical and Dental Mission to Bacolod in the Philippines for February 2024. Myra will share a presentation on her previous Medical and Dental Missions to Bacolod, and information on her next Mission.

A fundraiser planned for 28 October to raise funds for the Mission, and Pamela Carne will share details of the event and raffle on the night.

The Rotary Club of Blacktown City’s Youth Director Pamela Carne,  is an integral part of the Teacher in a Box RAWCS project, and represents Teacher in a Box on the Club Board.

In October 2023 Pamela and the Teacher in a Box team visited Kenya and Tanzania to upgrade the hard drives of the laptops donated to many schools in the area, giving the teachers and students access to new programs and a wealth of new information on their virtual libraries.

During dinner Pamela will share a new Teacher in a Box promotional video and testimonial video from a student living in the Kibera slum in Nairobi, as well as updates on recent overseas deployments.

On the anniversary of the Krait’s daring raid into Singapore during    World War II, retired Commando and Rotary Club of Blacktown City member Ivan Kelly will share his story of being part of this incredible raid.

Renamed Krait (after a deadly species of snake) its most famous hour came in 1943 when a 14-strong company of British and Australian army and naval personnel from Allied Z Special Unit set out on a daring commando night raid on Japanese shipping in Singapore Harbour, sinking 6 ships.

In the words of Vale Sir Clem Renouf, Rotary International President 1978-1979 “Rotary takes ordinary men and gives them extraordinary opportunities to do more with their lives than they ever dreamed possible.”  The Rotary Club of Blacktown City’s members do extraordinary things, touching so many in our local and global communities, and and tonight we will hear from three of our outstanding members. It will be a very special meeting, and not one to miss!

Please RSVP by 12 noon on Monday 25 September via this Website Contact Us page – The dinner cost $23.00 and includes a 2-course dinner. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements. Eftpos facilities are available.
