During our Dinner Meeting on 11 July 2023, President Rob Smith presented Grace with a Certificate of Appreciation for her hard work in bringing the website from a dream to reality.
Our new website began its life 18 months earlier. Rajat, a Sydney “web developer,” contracted to build the website for a healthy fee but secretly used the extensive Indian IT pool to do the work at a fraction of the cost.
Over time, the build became procrastinated, dragging out to over a year. A demand for full payment before work would continue was made, and Rajat received 100% of his fee. He had depleted his labour pool, and no one would work for him. Rajat promptly disappeared.
A few weeks later, at a Western Sydney Business Connection meeting at the Parramatta Parkroyal, we were seated at a table with Grace Wong of Addicted to Apps. Grace listened sympathetically to our story and agreed to see if the website was salvageable. Thankfully Grace agreed to take on the task of completing the website.
Salvageable was not the word to use!
As Grace worked on the site, it became obvious that the structure was inadequate and poorly executed, and she virtually had to rebuild the entire website.
When almost complete and happy with the website structure, it became apparent that the website was no longer required at its intended destination. A new home was found, and once again, Grace saved the day, happily agreeing to convert the website content for its new home at the Rotary Club of Blacktown City, telling the world who they are and what they do.
The Rotary Club of Blacktown City now has a quality website that receives accolades for its quality, content and visuals. We have been told, “It is the best website in Rotary District 9675”!
The number of enquiries we receive via the Rotary Club of Blacktown City website is rewarding. It is doing what it was designed for exceptionally well: To build membership and community awareness.
