On 18 January 1977, a crowded commuter train derailed when approaching Granville train station at the Bold Street Bridge, causing the bridge to collapse onto two of the trains passenger carriages. The Granville Train disaster remains the worst rail disaster in Australian history.
Today’s memorial service to honour the 84 lives lost, attended by Rotarians Gary Raymond and Scotty McInally, marks the 45th anniversary of the Granville Train Disaster.
