2026 Blacktown Winter Solstice

On 20 June, the shortest day and longest night marked a long darkness of the year. Yet the light of the Blacktown Winter Solstice shone brightly on mental health and suicide prevention. Inspirational speakers shared stories of resilience and hope, strengthened by powerful community connections. Musical entertainment lifted the spirit of the evening, and a solemn candle lighting ceremony offered a moment of remembrance. First responders, mental health agencies, and support organisations stood as beacons of hope for the community.

Speakers were ARH Rae Anne Medforth, Cr Julie Griffiths AM, former child actor Sarah Monahan, author Carla Berbary, Katie Dokmanovic of Grace’s Place and Gary Raymond OAM. Singer Marilyn Mendez and Emcee PP Ken Fairfax. Organising team led by Pam Carne Rotary Club of Blacktown City.

‘So very privileged to hear the very moving stories of these survivors of suicide, with heartfelt thanks to ‘team Rotary’ for the wonderful efforts they made to create this very special platform again this year.’ Pam Carne
